Amid concerns about the length of savings for young professionals, a $400 million program was recently announced to subsidize 20% of the rent of first-time homeowners. Subsidized rental prices are blocked at a time when the tenant buyer is saving, and the program requires that rental prices remain low to cope with the process. At the end of the savings phase, professionals have the opportunity to buy their apartment. The average first buyer now needs 22 years to save without the help of his parents for a deposit.
